Stede Bonnet was born in Barbados in 1688 into a prominent family surrounded by wealth and led a carefree life upon the death of his father at the age of six was now in charge of the family holdings. In 1717 chose to wed Mary Allamby and they eventually had four children and later enlisted in the local militia as a major and at one time Justice of the Peace. For some reason, he was determined to lead the life of a pirate and without telling his family possibly bored with settling down and arranged for a ship to be built he christened the Revenge. With little seaworthy knowledge he sailed for the Bahamas but on the way had a brush with a warship from Spain resulting in his being wounded. Upon arriving at his destination made the acquaintance of Edward Teach and turned over the ship to him until he was able to resume as captain. Together they were successful in plundering the Caribbean and captured a ship named the Concorde, Teach chose it for himself changing the title to Queen Anne's Revenge and sometime later both parted ways.
As things progressed for Bonnet in his capturing ships in a meeting again with Blackbeard his crew chose to abandon him as they considered him not worthy and instead sided with Teach. Bonnet was now placed as just a participant and someone else as captain on the Revenge to further humiliate him. When Bonnet landed at Topsail Island was told that the ship he had built was plundered by Blackbeard and when it was seaworthy again, he resumed command and crew from those marooned by Teach. To quell the presence of pirates in the region when information reached the governor of South Caroline that Bonnet now with more ships at his disposal had been sighted nearby and commissioned pirate hunters to dispel them. In the engagement that took place and with Bonnet losing he ordered the ship to be scuttled but was outvoted and all were forced to surrender. At the trial, Bonnet and the remaining crew were deemed guilty of piracy and sentenced to hang in a feeble attempt Bonnet implored the governor to pardon him and would never again take this path of life but it was in vane as the sentence was carried out and was put to death by hanging in 1718.
