Edward Low (Lowe or Loe) was born in Westminster, London, England, in 1690 and from early on was prone to crime and ill-tempered. Growing up in a family that promoted theft along with his brother Richard and this led to his sibling graduating to more crime and led to being hung as punishment in 1707. Edward relocated to Boston, Massachusetts, and in 1714 wed Eliza Marble and she bore him two children of which the first a son who died at an early age and later a daughter in 1719 which caused his wife to die while giving birth. A few years passed until Edward chose to follow the pirate life in various locations including New England and the Caribbean. This choice began slowly as being just part of a crew and when he disagreed with an order the captain shot at him but missed and wounded another instead and then removed along with a few friends from the vessel.
This event gave way to him becoming a pirate on his account and slowly gathering ships and crew and his reputation grew as a vicious individual using torture and death that even the sign of his flag caused ships to surrender. His exploits became profound and in one such encounter in 1722 after giving a small fleet an ultimatum captured the ships and took the largest for himself and renamed it The Fancy and sent the rest to the bottom. Further conflict with his crew caused them to mutiny and put him overboard with a few loyal companions some accounts state he was rescued and a passing ship and when recognized they turned him over to authorities where he was tried and executed.
