Anne Bonny

The tale of Anne Bonny is a collection of events from her early years to adulthood during the eighteenth century. Life as a pirate was a mixture of adventure and discovery but could prove to be beset with turmoil and defeat. Prospects of wealth and fame were not always the case and death was a possible side effect of this choice during this time on the high seas. She was born in County Cork, Ireland around 1698 and was the child of an unwed mother named Mary Brennan. Her father was a lawyer of William Cormac and her mother became pregnant while she was working as a servant in his employ. When his wife was made aware of this fact, she stopped all funds to him and eventually when Anne was only ten years old the trio moved to a section of England named the Province of Carolina.

It was in her early teens when her mother passed away which placed Anne now in the role of caretaker of the household. A short time later she met the reformed Pirate James Bonny to which her father did not approve and strongly voiced his displeasure of him. In defiance of him, she married James and moved to the Bahamas. Anne wanted more of an adventure so she left James to travel with "Calico Jack" Rackham to sail the seas as a pirate. During this time, they became closer romantically and Anne even chose to dress like a man until in 1720 the entire crew was captured and tried for piracy. Another woman that was on the crew with her was Mary Read and the only reason both escaped the nose was they both were now with child. Since there are conflicting reports of her life after that of her fate and whereabouts I will leave this tale to the interpretation of the reader.
